The Silver Moccasin Grand Opening
The Silver Moccasin celebrated the Grand Opening on August 3, 2007. Local dignitaries and many other supporters were in attendance. The local Chamber of Commerce partnered in the event. In place of a ribbon, we had a piece of birch bark which I thought was more appropriate for a native arts & crafts store!
It was a long one-year process getting the business plan together, arranging financing, preparing the store premises and purchasing the equipment and inventory. For those who assisted me along the way, I can’t thank you enough!
Buffy Sainte-Marie drops in for a shopping spree at The Silver Moccasin!
On Sunday Oct. 17th, 2010 we met Buffy Sainte-Marie following her spectacular performance at the Classic Theatre in Cobalt. After receiving a sample of products from The Silver Moccasin, Buffy decided to do some shopping there the next day before leaving town. Lori and me had an absolute blast hanging out with Buffy and her band members for at least an hour that day while they bought up a wide variety of products for birthday and Christmas gifts. What a great bunch! Buffy is a real gem and it was truly a pleasure to meet her (and serve her!) We do hope she comes back again!
Hand Drum Workshop Held at local High school
A Hand Drum workshop was held for the Aboriginal program at the local high school in New Liskeard on March 30, 2011. Above are students with instructor Connie Boyd proudly displaying their completed drums. The drums will be used for special ceremonies and the upcoming Powwow taking place at the high school.
Silver Moccasin Vending Booth at Northern College
Powwow in Timmins
My sister Linda and I set up a vending booth at the Northern College Powwow in Timmins in April of 2009. It was so great to see all the drummers and dancers from around the north! It was also a great weekend for sales and meeting new people. We received a lot of attention with our unique products and handmade crafts that are not always easy to find.
